TeenPeople folds

A new development for People has occured. TeenPeople is folding and being combined with People. When logging onto TeenPeople online, you will be automatically directed to the People website.
It has been reviewd that most teen-related stories sell with older audiences. It is a waste to have two separate websites and magazines. They do just as well in sales when being combined. The site had 435,000 unique visitors in March 2006, but a year later, it didn't meet minimum sample size standards needed to reliably project audience size, according to Nielsen//NetRatings.
Today, it seems as though the generation above us keeps up on our generation, and younger, just as much as thier own, if not more. Media is media. That's all there is to it. It either sells or it doesn't. A 27-year-old actress can play a teenager in a seriese and it is acceptable. No questions asked. So who are we to separate young and old? They make the same money, they work the same business, they all sit in the same seats at the Grammy's.

A lot of magazines started a sub magazine for the younger generation, such as Elle Girl and Cosmo Girl. I think those are also combining or are only available online now. I would think adults would want to know teenage related topics to keep up with their children, while many teens could care less about the serious adult issues going on. It isn't like all that's in the teen magazines are young people. There are also older people. The same goes for adult magazines. In Hollywood there might not be a seperation between young an old, but in the real world, I definitely think there is.

I think that there is a place for teens and their fashion and ideas. What I think is that beyond the clothes and hot rock stars is what they feel inside and are dealing with in real life. Being a teen is not easy... you are facing real life and many are having problems dealing with the reality of it. Adults are dealing with other aspects of being adults, and somehow forgetting about their own struggles through the teenage years. We must not forget, today's teenagers are tomorrow adults. They don't have the most important thing in life and that is experience, but their opinions are so important. Their opinions and ideas are telling us where we are possibly looking to in the future. We need to give them space to explain how they feel and listen to their ideas and dreams. Maybe this could wake up call for some of the older adults. Teens do need a space of some sort to express themselves. But then we have to deal with the corporate world who only sees the bottom line....that big dollar $$$ sign. Where do you turn?

I think all of these magazines need to be thrown out. Not being too contrustive here, but they all seem pretty useless. People particularly seem to be about hollywood rich and famous. I've never read its teenager aimed version, but I imagine its quite similar. A lot of these teen articles seem to be running racy articles like those in the regular versions. SO lets just combine them all! Maybe parents will have a step up on what their children are reading.
